Despite the perceived downturn of this market, RGP is still designing and constructing supermarkets for the major brands.

The latest success has been the opening of a new Asda supermarket at Greyhound Retail Park in Chester.

RGP have been working for a number of years on this large retail park, and the last phases included new John Lewis at Home, and Next stores.

The Asda store is located on the site of a former cinema and bowling alley, and the framework of the latter was incorporated in the new building.

The project was carried out for Land Securities, and constructed by Morgan Sindall.

The store included an enhanced thermal envelope to provide a more energy efficient building and also Asda’s successful “Click and Collect” service, where customers order their groceries on-line and then collect their order themselves.

The new Asda at Chester is one of a number of food store projects in design and development at RGP.

The RGP website illustrates two new Morrison’s stores at the Isle of Sheppey and Gloucester, and a new project is a landmark Waitrose store at Uttoxeter on a part of the former JCB factory.

A Mark and Spencer’s Simply Food concept store is soon to open at Great Yarmouth, and numerous others proposals are in development to house Aldi, Lidl and Netto stores and other retailers.
