The Ratcliffe Groves Partnership (RGP) designed new store for Waitrose at Utoxeter opened this week. This modern-looking store is on the site of the former JCB works, which was moved out of town to a state of the art production facility. The design makes the most of the site area by placing the store on stilts with customer parking underneath. Access to the shop floor is through a large glazed atrium which also faces on to the town centre, reducing the massing and impact of the building on the high street.
This store is the third Waitrose in Staffordshire creating 120 new jobs for the Uttoxeter economy. The chairman of JCB Lord Bamford took personal interest in the project and was joined by the local MP for the opening ceremony.
