Sunny weather and huge crowds greeted the opening of the new Marks and Spencer store at Charlton Riverside.

Such was the interest that, even on a day of tube strikes, shoppers were queuing well before opening time in scenes reminiscent of the release of a new Apple gadget. Alongside a new Costa Coffee pod, this event marked the full opening of LXB’s Charlton Riverside Place after two years on site and many more in the planning.
On the same site Sainsbury’s opened one of their largest and most sustainable stores of 2015 a full two weeks earlier than their new neighbours. Both stores achieved BREEAM Very good and benefit from huge PV arrays and rainwater harvesting. Because there really is no Plan B.
