Project Description
RGP’s long association with Hammerson includes Cleveland Retail Park. Over a period of ten years, the area has been transformed from a poorly-performing retail backwater into a hugely popular regional destination. Various constraints required a phased approach, which in turn reflects the rapid evolution of retail over the period.
Phase One included the construction of B&Q and another retail terrace, bookending the existing units, which remained fully-occupied throughout. Phase Two saw the construction of new units to facilitate the relocation of retailers from the central terrace, leading to Phase Three and the demolition and construction of new units in the centre to broaden the retail line-up.
Phase Four, completed in 2012 saw the construction of a smaller retail and restaurant terrace in the car park, as well as improvements to the road network to cope with the increased visitor numbers.
Features of the park are the creative fence panels to the rear of B&Q, the pedestrian frontage with repeater retailer panels and the pod units, which extend dwell time and add interest around the park entrance.
