Project Description
RGP were appointed by Viridian Housing to obtain planning permission on a strip of disused land near Clapton in Hackney, for a 3/4 storey development, comprising 12 flats and 3 maisonettes.
The design provided solutions to serious site constraints including a main trunk sewer running through the site, ground contamination, a single aspect view and in the end achieved an EcoHomes rating of ‘Very Good’. A number of sustainability features include green walls on three facades of the building and green screens growing on the balconies, effectively becoming a ‘living’ balustrade, solar heating, triple glazing, Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) using a mixture of thin joint masonry technology and timber framing.
