Another ‘Passiv Haus’ designed by The Ratcliffe Groves Partnership has been approved by Bury Council after plans were submitted to turn an inefficient old house into an environmentally friendly one.
Keen to replace their rather cold and draughty old family home with something very sustainable, innovative and off-grid, the owners of the house at Greenacre, Bury approached Reid Lewis.
The site is surrounded by agricultural land and this is reflected in the proposed design blending a traditional, stone finished “Lancashire Long Barn” with a modern-looking agricultural barn.
The house has been designed to maximise and capture the heat of the sun to help warm it, following Passive Haus principles, combined with a very well insulated and airtight structure.
The dwelling has the appearance of a traditional barn when viewed from Redisher Lane and conceals a roof of Photovoltaic panels to provide the power for the families own use.
The Ratcliffe Groves Partnership is fast becoming known as specialists in this field and has designed several houses like this across the northwest and many more are planned throughout the UK.
