RGP has prepared designs for what could be Rossendale’s first Passivhaus.
It is to be a low impact highly sustainable dwelling, located on the site of the former Hawthorn Mill, near to the centre of Crawshawbooth and reflects many aspects of the former mill building.
The proposal, submitted by Richard Gee of Roman Summer Associates to Rossendale Borough Council for Planning approval, is for a single dwelling, largely concealed by existing mature shrubs and trees. It includes green roofs, photovoltaic panels for its primary energy source, supplemented by a micro-Dinorwig energy store. The house is designed for off-site modular manufacture, using energy efficient SIPs panels, to ensure the need for a minimum number of delivery vehicles and speed of on-site construction. Within the surrounding woodland a series of public spaces, with information boards recording the history and ecology of the site, forms a part of the application.
An extensive and experienced design team has been assembled including RGP Architects, Penny Bennet Landscape Architects, Ecology Services, Bowland Tree Consultancy, DTPC, Ian Farmer Associates, Ray Clark Design and Parker Wilson Consulting.
